SORTATION CONVEYORS

Deliver Products More Quickly and Accurately with Sortation Conveyors

When efficiency is on the line at your distribution center, sortation conveyors deliver. With options like sliding shoe, narrow belt, right angle transfer, ARB and pivot wheel, you’ll be able to keep products moving as they’re quickly separated by destination, weight, size, or other criteria.

As an experienced conveyor system integrator, RMH Systems understands no two companies are the same. Our team will help you design and implement a material handling automation system that helps you fulfill orders faster.

We’re proud to be your single-source integration partner. You won’t have to spend time coordinating with multiple vendors because our team will handle all the engineering, implementation and aftermarket service for your conveyor system in-house.

For more than 80 years, our industrial automation systems have helped companies like yours work more safely and efficiently. Ask us how we can create a custom solution for your needs, regardless of size or complexity.

What is a Sortation Conveyor?

A sortation conveyor is a type of conveyor system that is used for sorting and separating materials – especially packages, cartons, totes or bins. These conveyors are often used in warehouses, distribution centers, and other industrial facilities after moving products from one location to another. Sortation conveyors can be used to sort products by destination, weight, size or other criteria.

Types of Sortation Conveyors

Also called a sliding shoe sorter conveyor, this high-throughput conveyor uses a series of slides with shoes that move along a track to gently sort products at higher speeds and throughput rates.

Key features:

  • Gentle material handling
  • Sorts up to 300 products per minute, including totes and boxes
  • Recommended for products that are fragile, easily damaged, or cartons of varying weights
  • Available with single-side or dual-side diverts, which are customizable based on conveyor design

Also known as a narrow belt sorter, this high-throughput conveyor offers a 30- or 90-degree divert.

Key features:

  • Quiet operation
  • Suitable for a wide range of industries
  • Fits into compact spaces and leads into robotic cells
  • Sorts up to 100 products per minute
  • Recommended for mid-size and mid-weight products, including totes, bins, boxes, and polybags
  • Can be reconfigured as your operations grow

Also called an activated roller belt sorter, this medium-throughput conveyor is known for its reliable movement for conveyed items. For applications involving products that flow into an industrial robot cell, a passive ARB transfer can be used that needs very minimal controls.

Key features:

  • Uses modular plastic belting
  • Saves floor space
  • Sorts up to 60 products per minute
  • Recommended for unstable products, square cases, tall cases, and polybags

Also called a swivel wheel sorter, this medium-throughput conveyor uses pivoting wheels to divert products.

Key features:

  • Saves floor space
  • Suitable for smaller distribution centers and food processors
  • Sorts up to 90 cartons per minute
  • Available as multiple diverts, even along smaller conveyor sections
  • Recommended for totes, bins, boxes and polybags
