Many of our wholesale racking customers are deciding to go double deep with their racks. This is simply stacking the racks two deep instead of in single rows. This is a great way to put more storage into your warehouse; however, you’ll need to make sure you have the equipment to handle it. Standard forklifts won’t reach back two shelves deep, so you’ll either need to invest in a forklift with a double deep attachment or a forklift that’s specially made to handle this setup.

This set-up can increase your pallet storage capacity by as much as 15%, but it’s not for everyone. It limits the accessibility of your pallets, so if you need constant access to all inventory you’ll be more productive with another layout. Plus, the investment in a special forklift or even the attachment can be too much cost to bear for some companies. Be sure to do your research before you commit to this warehouse layout. There are plenty of warehouse layout options available, so if this one isn’t right, you’ll be able to find the one that is right for your products, employees, equipment, and available space.
