Freestanding Monobox Crane Provides Strength without Impeding on Shop Space
The Client
The client is a John Deere implementation dealer based out of Southeast Minnesota. The client sold and serviced John Deere tractors, combines and other commercial John Deere products. They have 6 different locations in Southeast Minnesota, to service and repair commercial farming equipment. The Problem The equipment dealer needed to expand his shop. With costs increasing for a conventional steel building, Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) were chosen for the construction of the new shop. While SIPs have many benefits related to construction costs and energy efficiency, it provided challenges for installing a crane system.
The Problem
The equipment dealer needed to expand his shop. With costs increasing for a conventional steel building, Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) were chosen for the construction of the new shop. While SIPs have many benefits related to construction costs and energy efficiency, it provided challenges for installing a crane system.
The Solution
With no steel building columns to support or reinforce the crane runways RMH Systems designed a completely freestanding steel structure. The 3 ton monobox crane spans 87 ft, travels 90 ft and has a hook height of 18 ft. This free-standing monobox crane provided the strength needed to lift heavy equipment without the need of columns or posts.
The Result
The dealer is thrilled with the design of this overhead crane system. Thanks to the nature of a free-standing crane, there are no large metal columns in the middle of their shop. Space was key for this equipment dealer, so designing a crane that did not impede on the space was a huge point of emphasis. The free-standing crane allowed the client to work on even the largest planters and combines with no issues.
